Press Invitation: Deployment of Saildrone in the Baltic Sea
On behalf of the Danish Defence Innovation Unit (DDIU) under the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO), we are pleased to invite you to an exclusive opportunity to witness the deployment of the Saildrone capability in the Baltic Sea. The event will take place on Monday, 16 June 2025, at Køge Marina.
Program:
The program includes a brief ceremony from 1200 to 1230 with remarks from:
· Richard Jenkins, Founder & CEO, Saildrone
· Lieutenant General Kim Jesper Jørgensen, National Armaments Director, Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (FMI)
The deployment of the two Saildrone Voyager-class unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) in the Baltic Sea is part of the Danish Armed Forces’ operational testing of unmanned maritime systems. During the summer of 2025, the Danish Armed Forces will conduct an operational trial of a total of four Saildrone USVs from the U.S.-based company in Danish waters. The objective is to enhance the Danish Armed Forces’ capacity for maritime surveillance and intelligence gathering – particularly in areas where current presence is limited.
The units are powered by wind and solar energy and can operate continuously without crew on board. The contract has been signed, and the vessels are expected to be operational from June 2025.
The testing is carried out in close collaboration between the Danish Armed Forces Drone Centre, the Danish Defence Command, the Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation, the Naval Command, and the Danish Defence Innovation Unit.
Please register for the event by contacting the DALO press department at presse-fmi@mil.dk no later than June 13.
